argos is home to Belgium’s largest collection of over 6,000 moving image works and artist films. Every month, we dive into our audiovisual archives to curate a work that resonates with current affairs or exhibitions, free for you to watch and enjoy on our website.

This month, we have selected Jayce Salloum’s untitled part 1: everything and nothing, an intimate interview with Soha Bechara, a former Lebanese National Resistance fighter. We chose this work because Soha’s story embodies resistance itself—her moving testimony invites reflection on what it means to survive, what endures, and what is left behind, aligning with the themes of our current exhibition.

Jayce Salloum, untitled part 1: everything and nothing (1999-2002)
40’’40”
Arabic, French spoken.
English subtitles.

The first installment of the ongoing tape untitled presents a quiet, direct conversation with Soha, filmed in her Paris dorm room a year after her release from El-Khiam torture and interrogation centre in South Lebanon, where she was detained for 10 years, six of them in isolation. Salloum captures her speaking not of the torture she endured but of the distance between her past and present, between what she left behind and what remains, revising notions of survival, will, separation, distance and closeness.
