Nocturne & Performance: Daughter’s Archive - Nebras Hoveizavi in collaboration with Natasha Yarney & Jaber Al-Tobaishi
Daughter’s Archive is a live cinema performance for three performers, two languages, and one family’s unarchived history. The story follows the artist’s mother, an Arab-Iranian woman who built herself from nothing to become the first female licensed fabric wholesaler in Ahvaz, Iran, only to lose everything: her business, her home, and her place within her own family. Told in the first person, as if the mother herself is speaking, the narrative unfolds through two voices.
Nebras stands at a music stand, reading the text live in Farsi, while Natasha delivers the English translation in turn. Behind them, Jaber mixes live video and sound, projecting archival footage and filmed images that shift and evolve with the rhythm of the reading. The stage is minimal—a body, a stand, a screen, and sound—yet the performance moves between the live reading and the artist’s filmed image, layering time and memory into an intimate experience between cinema, live literature, and sound.

Practical info
This event is part of a nocturne: our exhibition stays open after hours (normally 11:00–18:00). The bar will be open.
The performance starts at 19:00 and lasts about an hour.
Visitors with an exhibition ticket can stay for the performance for free.
New visitors can attend on a pay-what-you-can basis.
Nebras Hoveizavi
Arab-Iranian artist and educator based in Qatar, working across experimental film, photography, installation, and poetry. Originally trained as a poet in Farsi, her practice explores displacement, memory, and the limits of language, transforming observation into a visual vocabulary. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Silent Green (Berlin), CICA Museum (Seoul), Whitechapel Gallery (London), and Cinema Iran (Munich).
Natasha Yarney
British Afro-Caribbean theatre practitioner and educator based in Qatar. With a background in drama and law, she specializes in performance and storytelling, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and memory. Her work bridges past and present experiences, using theatre as a space for dialogue and connection.
Jaber Al-Tobaishi
Multidisciplinary artist based in Doha, working with sound, music, moving image, and photography. His practice focuses on the interplay between audiovisual elements, rooted in analogue exploration and synthesis. He is the founder of MELD, a creative platform supporting artists in Qatar.
