THE 1970s: _

In 2018, argos received support from the cultural heritage decree of the Flemish Community for Artists’ Film and Video in Belgium in the 1970’s (2018-2021). This major research project investigated and reconstructed the pioneering ways in which Belgian artists made use of film and video in the 1970s. The results were disseminated in an e-publication, a documentary, an exhibition and a conference. Find more information about the project by following this link.
A brochure with five texts written by Dagmar Dirkx and edited by Inge Coolsaet was made as a companion piece to the exhibition. It explores its four main themes: means of production, events, artist collectives, and the interdisciplinary.

An e-publication was published in 2023, with the intention to facilitate further research on the topic. It brings together four commissioned texts by Erien Withouck, Michel Botquin, Lou Jonas and Xavier García Bardón, the complete filmography of the research project and the unedited transcriptions of the research interviews.
