Orla Barry has described Portable Stones as “a wall of words, constructed from images – or a wall of images, made up of words”. The film is structured like a poem, evoking two characters in linguistic isolation. Exploring different forms of indirect communication, they experience silence and discuss ‘not-speaking’. Fantasy and imagination are woven into a web of associative and intimate fragments of memories and voices.
